Cat Out Loud Notices an Inconsistency In Wisconsin
(Note: I am pro-alternative power, including wind power, wisely placed. My sarcasm here is for comparative reasons...not condemning reasons)
Barb lets us perceive irony on our own when she posts today about Wisconsin's approval of a large wind farm," despite the fact that windfarms are known to be harmful to migratory species.
Although concerns were raised about the impacts on migratory and nesting birds by locating the project within a few miles of Horicon marsh, the country's largest freshwater cattail wetland, the commissioners said research, although incomplete, indicates the impact on avian and bat mortality would not be significant. Wait. Isn't this the same state where certain citizens proposed that all collarless free-roaming cats be shot...due to their potential impact on migratory species?.
In other words, it's OK for us to kill birds so humans can have clean power to run our many appliances ( at a time when any education on conservation of power is glaringly absent), but heaven forbid we neuter and keep barn-or-street cats as part of a large long-term effort to reduce and in some case eliminate their numbers.
They might kill birds over those 20 years! Yet windmills will kill birds forever, in increasing numbers (more windmills) rather than decreasing numbers.
Wouldn't it be interesting to take the mortality rate ascribed or guessed at for windmills and subject it to the same exponential statistical exaggeration that was used to estimate cat predation?
