Unhealthy livestock and domestic animals can have a negative impact on a local population's health and economy.
Veterinarian clinics and hospitals in the Al Anbar Providence have been unable to operate or operate at full capacity for many years. Lack of veterinarian medicines and supplies has been a contributing factor.
Help support the Marines in improving conditions for all of Iraq's living creatures.
Iraq has animal resources estimate at 12 mil sheep, 1.3 million goats, 1.25 million cows and 125,000 camel. However, critical medicines, facilities and supplies are lacking or unavailable to adequately provide for these millions of livestock.
Troops with the 5th CAG seek to revitalize existing veterinarian clinics with the help of the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture and support of NGO's, like Spirit of America.
The scope of their support may include increasing the number of veterinarian clinics and hospitals in rural areas, providing a means to ensure food safety at markets and distribution, sourcing and distributing needed veterinary pharmaceuticals and improving the training and technology available.
