FROM LINDA RANDOLF:
I attended the Natural Resources Executive committee in the assembly - Democrat and Republican alike - all wolf haters. The only amendment that passed was taking out the allowance for any landowner at any time to kill any wolf on sight without a license. What stayed in ?
They refused to shorten the four and a half month "season" a month. They still want to let hunters shoot from the road, shine wolves with flashlights to confuse and block their ability to see to defend themselves;
they kept in night hunting with dogs ( a safety issue for their dogs and them - the wolves of course are meant to be harmed), so they said they would be hunting wolves 24 hours a day with packs of dogs,
and mentioned that they would be killing pups and "pregnant bitches".
They will use crossbows, bows and arrows and any gun with a bullet bigger than a BB.
Please come Tuesday if this is not the Wisconsin you want. If you could RSVP to me, that would be great.
The following bills also will have hearings that day:
Assembly Bill 384 USE OF CROSSBOWS FOR ANYONE OVER AGE 12 on most wildlife, including wolves

Paul Watson, Sea Shepherd captain, who fights the Japanese whaling ships, wrote "You can't love and respect nature with a gun" when he quit the National Sierra Club Board of Directors in protest of their spending hundreds of thousands of dollars recruiting hunters to membership. Of the wolf, he wrote,
"I followed a trail of blood for over a mile to discover an aerial gut-shot wolf staring at me in fear and bewilderment.
What I have observed in the wild is suffering. It was plainly evident and I felt remorse for the arrogance of our species for justifying the taking of lives for sport, for enjoyment, for fun, and for pleasure."
