We Need Your Help!
I am writing this from the scene of an incredible emergency animal rescue being led by our In Defense of Animals Rescue Team. I am at a toxicology laboratory in New Jersey where 55 macaque monkeys and 118 beagles recently became “seized assets” when the lab went out of business. We have already helped facilitate the rescue of the beagles, and we’re now on the property to bring the monkeys to freedom.
As you read these words, all 55 young macaque monkeys – we will leave none behind! - are beginning a 1,700-mile journey to a new life – away from this unfathomable existence in grim cells, with its day-to-day burden of unspeakable cruelty and isolation, to four safe havens in Oklahoma and Texas filled with fresh air, friends, and freedom from harm.
Thanks to IDA and our supporters, these monkeys are on their way – right this minute!
You should expect nothing less for your support and generosity. The moment I heard of this dismal situation I made a promise to each of these innocent animals that IDA would shepherd them out of confinement and misery and into a new world of comfort and love.
Knowing these young monkeys would have faced decades of painful experimentation, it was a particularly emotional moment this morning as we loaded them onto the transport truck in preparation for their journey. It was truly a relief to look each one of these incredible creatures in the eyes and make good on my promise: finally taking them into our arms of compassion.
As you will surely appreciate, lifesaving rescues such as this can be sudden and costly. This rescue of the monkeys will cost more than $25,000. Suffice it to say, we had to dig deep into our Animal Rescue Fund to get the job done.
When we learned of the dismal fate reserved for these animals we offered aid immediately. IDA is not only paying for the transport of the monkeys, but also providing grants for all of the sanctuaries to assist with their housing and care.
This rescue was sudden and costly, So, please, be as generous as you are able today.
With your generosity and our determination, we will not only meet our commitment to these monkeys, but I believe we can free an unprecedented number of animals awaiting rescue from labs and other abusive environments and the misery and exploitation inflicted upon them.
On behalf of all the animals who benefit from your compassion, thank you for all that you do.
Respectfully,
Scotlund Haisley
President, In Defense of Animals
