WI is one of the states that allows bear baiting.Doyle's DNR allows cruelty that meets with horror in 3rd world countries
Unending fear and agony of being attacked: that is the life of a traumatized bear trapped in the gruesome medieval “sport” of bear baiting. The terrified bear struggles against being dragged into the ring, as if he knows what is about to happen. He is tied to the ground with no escape, as dogs are goaded to maul him.
He is defenseless, because as a cub he suffered the trauma of having his teeth pulled out. He has only his weight in his favor, but that is no protection against the tearing jaws of up to six fresh pairs of dogs at each event. After each fight, he is left untended under the scorching sun. He overheats in his thick winter coat, adding to his misery and sapping his strength.
Between events, his life is spent tethered on the short chain through his nose, so every movement hurts his sensitive nostrils. He could be chronically ill because his poor diet lacks the nutrients his injured body needs to heal. The victims of bear baiting suffer terribly. Bears are always injured, while dogs can be maimed or crushed as the bear fights for his life.
In Pakistan, bear baiting is officially illegal. So is capturing or keeping bears. Yet it still occurs regularly, particularly in the Punjab and Sindh provinces. In Wisconsin Bear baiting is legal.
Together, we can put a stop to this horrific “sport”. WSPA needs your urgent attention on several fronts.
Your support will enable us to work alongside the authorities, positively encouraging them to end the distress of bears and dogs by shutting bear baiting down.
We also need your help in locating and confiscating the bears. Because bear baiting is an illegal and shadowy activity, WSPA needs to fund investigators who will find bears, identify their captors to police, then use the legal protection of the authorities to shut down the events and get the bears to safety. Come to WI - It is legal here -done openly - approved by our DNR.
Ultimately, your generosity will help provide a far better life for the bears at the Kund Park Bear Sanctuary, in Pakistan, built by WSPA. A rescued bear cannot return to the wild, because he will need care and rehabilitation to treat his wounds. He will need special nutrition to rebuild his depleted health. He needs shelter, privacy and a vet’s help to work through the aftermath of so much violent abuse. But as you can imagine, Kund Park’s high standard of care is costly. That is why we are asking for your help.
At the same time, we need to work with local people in areas that still tolerate bear baiting, convincing them that a bear being savaged in a ring is a sentient being that has needs and feels pain. School visits, teacher training on bear welfare and programs of mass awareness can be extraordinarily effective for transforming public attitudes. With your help, the idea of a frightened bear being attacked by enraged dogs will become as unthinkable there as it is here. The gruesome and medieval practice of bear baiting, is LEGAL in Wisconsin - not "unthinkable". Gov Doyle's DNR allows it and people from the south come to WI in order to enjoy it and train their dogs.
It is imperative that we reduce public demand by raising awareness. We need to keep the pressure on authorities to ensure bears are confiscated from these illegal events, so they can receive the highest standard of care at the Kund Park sanctuary. We need to do it now, because no bear should have to face another day of this abuse and terror. For the sake of bears trapped in this awful “sport”, and for all animals facing cruelty, neglect and crisis, please make an urgent donation today. Thank you.
Is it any wonder WI under Doyle shoots swans? No stupid cruelty is too bad for our savage DNR and its' killer employees.

This is unbelievable! I hadn't heard of such a thing until I read this!! What are people thinking? I know there are alot of folks with no regard to the dignity of animals here in WI. But to allow this monstrous "sport" is like living in hell. It's difficult to even imagine such a nightmare but to actually see pix. All I can say is this sucks BAD and the swan people are jumping into the fray!!
joolsb
Of course, so called "sportsmen" are writing comments wherein they tell their usual lies about how this is really not so bad. I will not publish those comments. They can spend the DNR's PR money to tell their lies - they will not do it here.
But I will give you a newspaper article and the minutes of the conservation congress committee that "regulates" this torture. The names of the fine upstanding citizens who allow it are in the minutes. They are the source of most of the lies about what is done to these animals.
The WI DNR hides the filthy practice under its dog training regulations on live animals. If you look up Bear Baiting you will get cover stories on feeding bears but I am printing enough material below so that you can get the facts.
STATE PANEL OKS RULES FOR TRAINING HOUND DOGS CAPTIVE WILD ANIMALS GAIN PROTECTIONS.(METRO)
From: The Capital Times Date: October 26, 2006 Author: Weier, Anita
Byline: Anita Weier The Capital Times
The Natural Resources Board has approved rules for the use of captive wild animals to train hound dogs.
The rules approved unanimously Wednesday came in response to a law passed by the Legislature and signed by the governor that allowed the use of coyotes, foxes and bobcats to train the dogs. Previous law allowed raccoons, rabbits and black bear to be used in training, but those rules also were updated to ensure "good treatment".
The rules are intended to ensure that the wild animals are treated humanely, held in sanitary conditions ... "
They say the same thing about humans they torture at Guantanamo in Cuba. Water boarding is not so bad......
Don't let your conscious be lulled. These are lies -- it is torture ----animal abuse by sadists to whom mere killing is no longer enough. These are dangerous men.

Here they ARE talking about putting food out to bring bears in for killing.
WI deliberately tries to hide the real bear baiting practices from the public by using the words "dog training" to disguise the practice of bear baiting. But the WI DNR does allow bear baiting in the traditional meaning of the word all over the world. They know what bear baiting really is and they make money from it -- torture tourism ----for "sportsmen" with big bucks.
Money is made for allowing animal abuse. This is part of WI's animal underground trade.
From another website----
"Viewing the practice as unfair and unsportsmanlike, citizens have placed a series of anti-baiting initiatives on statewide ballots.
In 1992, Colorado voters banned bear baiting through a statewide initiative, soundly rejecting the hunters' self-serving argument that you need to bait and shoot bears to control the population.
In 1994, Oregon voters followed suit, as did voters in Washington in 1996. That same year, Massachusetts voters also passed an initiative to ban bear baiting.
Bear baiting is illegal in 18 of the 28 states that allow bear hunting. It is still permitted in 10 states: Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming."
In my point of view, successful dog training is not only about getting your dog to understand you—it’s about how much you understanding your dog. Dog training will improve the relationship and interaction between you and the dog, once your dog was well trained, you will have fun with the dog.
