Speak Up for Wisconsin's Mute Swans
The DNR claims that mute swans are not native to North America, and therefore, should be listed as an “invasive species.” However, there is conflicting evidence about whether mute swans are native to the North American continent, and regardless, the birds are now a naturalized part of the environment. Mute swans do not pose a threat to Wisconsin’s aquatic ecosystems and any perceived conflicts with these birds can be resolved using effective, humane methods.
TAKE ACTION
The Wisconsin DNR is currently accepting public comments until September 5 on the proposed regulations to list mute swans as a prohibited invasive species. Please send an email to speak up for these beautiful birds and urge the DNR to reconsider the proposed regulations. Also, please tell your friends and family in Wisconsin how they can help, too.
Thank you for taking the time to speak out for animals.
Sincerely,
Mike Markarian
Executive Vice President
The Humane Society of the United States

We are unaware of the petition website. However, we gathered over 5000 signatures on pettions we circulated in s.e. Wisconsin. The DNR held a meeting on Oct. 20th to determine whether or not to take the trumpeters off the Protected List. No decision has been made as far as we know. Mute shootings will continue next year if our referendum doesn't to through. We intend to challenge the DNR to a public debate & also have a possible documentary in the works. Wasteful spending at the expense of taxpayers & any critter is a sin. Thanks for your support.
