Sign the Petition: Get Limbaugh off Armed Services Radio
So no one should be silenced? I did not quite get the point -whatever - what I did understand is WRONG!
Let me explain.
Some of the said misogynists are institutionalizing their woman hatred into laws that are now being passed at a state and federal level and they need to be castrated (metaphorically).
Some misogynist (read Rush Limbaugh) are on taxpayer supported Armed Forces Radio reinforcing the idea that women who dismiss male concerns are whores and sluts and prostitutes and their rapes should be televised. Limbaugh should not be able to use our tax dollars for his free speech encouraging the rape of women in the military.
Limbaugh should be silenced on Armed Services Radio at least.
The critical words are: institutionalized sexism must be eliminated and individual sexism must be educated. Education means public opprobrium and letters to their pocketbook sources. Nothing educates a sexist more than threats to withdraw their income source.
Bill Maher 's sexism must be fought by education. Ed Schultz has been educated. Rush Limbaugh's activities on Armed Forces Radio are an example of institutionalised sexism which must be eliminated.

Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said Wednesday that the Armed Forces Network should drop conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. While the armed services continue to tolerate a rape culture within the services this is a more than appropriate request.
EXAMPLES OF RAPE TOLERANCE IN THE MILITARY
There is a law suit being waged by military women over the military's tolerance for rape culture that is relevant. They complain of being regularly called whore, and sluts, dykes, (feminazi?) and prostitutes. Behind their back and to their face.
"Eight current and former members of the U.S. military allege in a new federal lawsuit that they were raped, assaulted or harassed during their service and suffered retaliation when they reported it to their superiors.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, accuses the military of having a "high tolerance for sexual predators in their ranks" and fostering a hostile environment that discourages victims of sexual assault from coming forward and punishes them when they do. The suit claims the Defense Department has failed to take aggressive steps to confront the problem despite public statements suggesting otherwise.
The eight women include an active-duty enlisted Marine and seven others who served in the Navy and Marine Corps. Seven women allege that a comrade raped or tried to sexually assault them, including in a commanding officer's office after a pub crawl in Washington and inside a Naval Air Station barracks room in Florida. The eighth says she was harassed and threatened while deployed to Iraq, only to be told by a superior that "this happens all the time."...............................

If the military continues to allow a broadcast by a radio host who demeans women of achievement in the same way, it is evidence of the military's tolerance for rape culture.
*******************************************
Another piece of evidence is the way the military hired its rape counselors, advocates and prevention specialists. They used this flood of hiring several years ago to prove they were really trying to prevent rape. But they gave preference points to the family members of servicemen.
I believe the air force actually restricted hiring to only family members of servicemen. I know one of the branches did.
So if your counselor is the wife of a man you serve with, there is a definite conflict of interest. It is not just that the counselor's sympathies will be more with her husband, it is more that the first thing military families learn is not to rock the boat for fear of consequences to their serviceman. Real advocates have to rock the boat.
There needs to be intervention by feminists to support military women. See the entire lawsuit here. End rape culture tolerance in the military. See the post at gendergappers.

While Levin said he’d like Armed Forces Network to drop the show he does not believe Congress should go so far as to require the Pentagon to do so through legislation .
On Wednesday, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm also weighed in on the issue, promoting the “Flush Rush” petition campaign to get Limbaugh kicked off the airwaves by promoting the effort on Twitter and on her television talk show “The War Room” website.
Granholm urges people to sign petitions calling on Clear Channel, which runs Limbaugh’s radio show, to yank him off the air and to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to stop airing Limbaugh’s show on the Armed Forces Radio Network.

However a Pentagon spokesman says the military’s network will continue to air Rush Limbaugh’s radio program. George Little says the American Forces Network offers a wide range of programming to reflect listeners’ interests and he is unaware of any plans to review that decision.

But they do not have a petition and they should!

Basking in the glow of a Republican sweep of Congress, Rush Limbaugh has stepped-up his attacks on groups and individuals who do not espouse his personal sexist, racist, classist and homophobic view of the world.
Along with favorite targets like NOW and the American Civil Liberties Union, Limbaugh recently launched a major attack on views expressed by Children's Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edleman about the devastating poverty and malnutrition faced by millions of children in the United States. The Children's Defense Fund is an advocacy group struggling to improve living conditions of children who, along with women, represent a majority of the nearly 40 million living in poverty in this country.
NOW has stepped up efforts to contact major advertisers who support Limbaugh's radio and television talk shows. Activists across the country are monitoring his programs and writing to advertisers, some of whom swear they did not know their advertising dollars were being spent on Limbaugh's programs.
To cut advertising costs, companies often buy "rotating" spots, which means they buy certain time periods as opposed to specific programs. By allowing stations flexibility in where commercials are placed, the station can in-turn offer lower rates to the companies placing the advertisements.
Kinko's and Sears have responded to letters from NOW activists by saying they did not realize their ads were running on Limbaugh's programs. While they may not have known where their advertisements would be placed before-hand, that does not let them off the hook.
Fearing loss of revenue, companies like Kinko's and Sears have the option to either buy specific programs, or demand that stations remove Limbaugh from the "rotating" spot schedule.
Without major advertising support, Limbaugh would be forced to either call on his radical right supporters to fund his programs, or remove himself from the airwaves.
